By 2012,
Cape Cod Fire
Log will recycle
an estimated
12,000 tons of
wood per year
that would have
otherwise ended
up in landfills.

Our Products      Features & Benefits      Why We're Greener

Using no new materials is the greenest practice of all.

Millions of tons of wood is discarded each year in the U.S. from construction projects and lumber mills. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, discarded wood accounts for an estimated 17% of the total waste received at municipal solid-waste landfills in the U.S. A recent article in Biomass Magazine states that the number of landfills available for waste disposal decreased from 8,000 in 1988 to less than 1,800 in 2006—a year in which nearly 14 million tons of wood was discarded.

Cape Cod Fire Logs reduce demand on landfills, save trees from use as firewood, and burn significantly cleaner and greener than regular cordwood:
Producing extremely low carbon monoxide and other greenhouse gas emissions
  Generating substantially less particulate matter
  Eliminating creosote accumulation
Generating more energy per pound of wood

Within the next five years, an estimated 44,000 tons of wood discarded by the construction industry and lumber mills that would otherwise have been tossed in landfills will be manufactured into Cape Cod Firelogs.

Greenhouse gas emissions, overflowing landfills, the need to preserve trees and forests—what should we be using to fuel our convenience fires?
Lighting a fire made of traditional cordwood makes you feel like you’re getting back to nature, but:
  • it consumes a great deal of wood
  • the particulates and greenhouse gas emissions are a major source of air pollution and smog
Manufactured firelogs offer an alternative that may be more convenient than cordwood and help to reduce emissions, but leading manufactured logs:
  • incorporate petroleum- or plant-derived waxes, oils, and glues as binders and to facilitate ignition and flammability
  • produce strong chemical odors and heavy black smoke
  • have restricted utility
Cape Cod Fire Logs, made from clean, discarded wood products with NO additives, provide:
  • a more natural, nontoxic, odor-free fire experience compared with conventional manufactured firelogs
  • a more convenient option to cordwood with minimal environmental impact, without the inconvenience or mess
